Career Competence Awareness Workshops (c2AW) are part of the overarching internal university project ‘FIT – Forging International Talents’, funded by the DAAD as part of the ‘Campus Initiative Internationale Fachkräfte’ with funds from the BMBF.
The aim of FIT is to support international students along their qualification path (Student Life Cycle) with programmes that support their academic success, professional qualifications and career entry in Germany. The c2AW makes a significant contribution to this by creating a link between the student’s own skills profile and job-related requirement profiles in Germany along two phases:
Opening & Awareness – More awareness of acquired competences
- What skills do I already bring to the degree programme?
- What are my personal strengths and talents?
- How can I use these skills successfully?
Our workshops and activities under the heading ‘Opening & Awareness’ help international students to find a more conscious approach to their own competences as a first step. They also find out which skills they have already acquired can be used to successfully organise their studies and which areas of expertise still offer potential for development. At the same time, all workshops are a space for networking, exchange and collaborative co-operation.
Growth – Strengthening your own skills profile with a view to starting a career
- Which competences have I already developed during my studies at the University of Siegen?
- How does my individual skills profile fit in with job-related skills profiles?
- Which competences will support me when I start my career in Germany?
In a second step, our ‘Growth’ workshops give international students the opportunity to identify the competences they have newly acquired or further developed during their studies at the University of Siegen and to reflect on them with regard to their previous competence profile. In addition, the students‘ competences are linked to professional and social requirements for entering the labour market in Germany. The students also include Green and Future Skills in their respective profiles.
The workshops can be attended individually at any time. At the same time, we recommend taking part in one workshop each of ‘Opening & Awareness’ and ‘Growth’ in order to work intensively on your own skills profile and to visualise previous developments during the course of your studies.
